As summer vacation approaches, arranging trips for kids can be more stressful for parents than their regular school schedules. According to Club Med’s global observations of family travelers, most parents hope their children can “deeply experience their travels,” rather than just being worn out by theme park-hopping and sightseeing itineraries. They want to create learning opportunities during the trip, help children connect more closely with local customs, and leave lasting, meaningful memories as a family.

Club Med has specially selected two of Japan’s most popular family resort destinations—Tomamu in Hokkaido and Kabira on Ishigaki Island, Okinawa—to launch the condensed essence of a Japanese summer festival, the ‘Japanese Midsummer Festival,’ from July 1 to August 31. This allows families to skip the rushed sightseeing routes and instead enjoy three complete elements of Japanese culture at once: Smell & Taste (flavors), Sights (scenery), and Sound (music). The festival features food stalls, evening traditional celebrations, and shamisen lessons, among other activities, creating unique cultural experiences and memories for families, immersing them in the most authentic Japanese ambiance, and celebrating the liveliest midsummer holiday.

Tomamu Hokkaido Resort – A Colorful Dream Summer Vacation That Transforms Kids’ Image of Snow Country
Summer in Hokkaido will definitely shatter kids’ image of a snowy white landscape. Aside from being a famous summer retreat in Japan, Hokkaido is also renowned for its colorful blooms in summer. Take your kids for a stroll across the vibrant floral carpets stretching between heaven and earth, and enjoy a slower pace of life that’s different from what you read in books. From early summer to autumn each year, there’s another hidden gem: the sea of clouds viewing platform. Led by Club Med’s local G.Os, families can head up the mountain to watch the sunrise emerging from the clouds, fulfilling the dream of walking on clouds and creating the most magical summer memories.

At the Club Med Tomamu Hokkaido Resort, dining is also a major highlight. In addition to offering unlimited fresh seafood and authentic Hokkaido cuisine, parents don’t have to worry about their kids’ meals. They can also enjoy grilled local Hokkaido beef and wagyu at the Haku themed restaurant within the resort.

For families traveling together, Club Med also offers the fun of making soba noodles by hand. After eating, adults can opt for an aromatic wine tasting class, sampling premium Japanese whisky and local sake paired with light snacks to unwind, ensuring that every member of the family, young and old, is well fed and happy.
