According to statistics from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications Tourism Bureau, Taiwan ranks as the second most frequent traveler to Japan, while South Korea is also among the top three most visited countries by Taiwanese travelers. Whether dining, shopping, or enjoying entertainment in these two countries, using a card is not only convenient but also comes with plenty of benefits. The fifth consecutive “JCB Summer Fun Festival” in Taiwan has expanded significantly in 2019. In addition to Japanese affiliated stores, it also includes major Japanese international airports and Korean physical affiliated store channels. The 2019 “JCB Summer Fun Festival” offers great deals in Japan and Korea when using your JCB card, along with a chance to win prizes on domestic transactions. Partnering with 22 issuing member institutions in Taiwan, it provides overseas card spending with a “starting from 3%” super rebate, riding the wave of Japan’s summer discount season and Seoul’s Summer Shopping Festival, making shopping and spending in Japan and Korea more cost-effective for JCB cardholders.

The number of Taiwanese traveling to Japan has repeatedly hit record highs, reaching 4.83 million in 2018, a 5% increase compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, with the global influence of Korean dramas and K-POP, South Korea has also become a major tourist destination. To meet the high demand for overseas spending, JCB International has specially combined the two popular travel destinations—Japan and Korea—to launch the “Rush to Japan and Korea, Big Card Rewards” value-packed rebate campaign. From July 1 to September 30, anyone using a JCB card for purchases in Japan and Korea can enjoy a rebate of starting from 3% on each transaction.

This card rebate campaign can be used at designated brand physical JCB affiliated stores in Japan. In addition to popular electronics, pharmacy and cosmetics, well-known department store brands, it also adds familiar stores such as Don Quijote, GAP, Takashimaya Department Store, and OTS RENT-A-CAR. It also includes international airports across Hokkaido, Kanto, Kansai, and Okinawa—essential stops for outbound travel—for the first time. Furthermore, a wide range of physical JCB affiliated stores in Korea have also joined the campaign, offering consumers even more choices.

In addition, JCB has exclusively created the “Doraemon Giant Gashapon Bus,” combining a nostalgic bus stop scene filled with cartoon memories, loaded with colorful gashapons containing surprise gifts, and will pop up for a limited time touring the north, central, and south areas in August. As long as you hold a JCB card and a single transaction receipt of NT$388 (inclusive) or more between July 1 and August 25, 2019, you can exchange for one “Doraemon Gashapon Bus Spin the Fun of Summer” gashapon at the event booth. Each person is limited to two exchanges per day.
