Song Joong-ki’s hometown is here – Don’t miss Korea’s must-visit summer festival: the Chicken & Beer Festival

This year marks the 7th edition of Korea’s summer spectacular, the “Daegu Chicken & Beer Festival,” which runs from July 17 to July 21. Over the course of five days at Ttukseom Park, the festival gathers beer producers from across the globe and renowned Korean fried chicken brands all in one place.

Daegu is the hometown of famous Korean actor Song Joong-ki. Thanks to his popularity, Daegu once invited Song Joong-ki to be its tourism ambassador. In 2017, when Song Joong-ki married Song Hye-kyo, Daegu capitalized on the idea of “Song Joong-ki marrying a daughter-in-law of Daegu” to further promote local tourism, giving the city an even higher profile.

Since its debut in 2013, the “Daegu Chicken & Beer Festival” has rapidly grown into one of Korea’s most iconic festivals in just six years.

The reason the Chicken & Beer Festival is held in Daegu is that many of Korea’s major fried chicken chains originated there. After the war, Korea began developing its poultry industry in Daegu to provide a variety of meats to the entire nation.
