This ultra-dreamy and stunningly beautiful secret spot is located on the midsection of the western coast of Xiyu in Penghu, right next to the basalt columns of Chixi. The columnar basalt formations along this stretch of coastline are spectacular and diverse, mostly dark black in color, gradually turning brown as you head north.

Chixi Rock Waterfall gets its name from the fish-scale-like patterns on the columnar basalt above it. After rain, water flows down the rocks resembling a waterfall—hence the name. Another interpretation is that the rock’s curved joints resemble a surging torrent of galloping horses rushing toward the sea.

The joints displayed in the rock waterfall are a type of curved joint, offering a different visual effect from the typical columnar joints we usually admire. These varying-sized stone cascades pour down majestically, each with its own unique character.
