Taiwan’s First Asymmetric Cable-Stayed Bridge: A Light Show Creates a Stunning Skyline

The Xindian River boasts clean and abundant water sources and serves as the ideal habitat for migratory birds in winter. This is where the original concept of the Anxin Bridge originated. The Anxin Bridge adopts a single-tower asymmetric cable-stayed design, which in form resembles a bird slightly spreading its wings while bathing in the Xindian River. Its name comes from spanning “An” (Ankeng) and “Xin” (Xindian), ultimately taking on the meaning of “peace of mind,” symbolizing that those who commute daily between the two areas via the light rail will do so safely and smoothly.

Unlike common bridge designs, the Anxin Bridge is Taiwan’s first single-tower cable-stayed truss composite rail bridge. It has a total length of 502 meters and is designed with three continuous spans, the longest of which reaches 225 meters — currently the longest span of any rail bridge in the country.

Located on the right bank of the Xindian River, Qingxi Riverside Park not only features a baseball field but also offers bike paths along the way, making it a great weekend leisure spot for families. The adjacent Anxin Bridge is expected to be completed in 2020 (109 in the Taiwanese calendar), providing the public with a new attraction in the future.
 
In the future, when trains pass over the Anxin Bridge, in addition to the lighting on the train itself, the bridge tower, and the suspension cables, the truss bridge will also gradually illuminate in the direction of the train’s movement, creating a unique nighttime spectacle. Whether enjoying the sunrise, sunset, or city lights, the Anxin Bridge is set to become a top photo spot in New Taipei City.
