Meng Lake is located at the source of the Xinshan Stream, a tributary of the Beigang River at the northern foot of Xinsan Mountain, at an elevation of 325 meters. Originally an irrigation reservoir for farmers, it is triangular in shape with each side about 50 meters long. The lake water is clear and beautiful, reflecting the dense tree shade.

Named “Meng Lake” (Dream Lake) because of the often misty, dreamlike atmosphere in winter, it is considered the most beautiful lake in Xizhi. There are two pavilions by the lake where visitors can quietly enjoy its serene and fresh environment.

Moreover, Meng Lake is a breeding site for the endangered Taiwan endemic fish species, the Taiwan shoveljaw carp. Signboards are placed around the lake to remind anglers not to fish this protected native species.

Nearby, Xinsan Mountain has an elevation of 499 meters—not particularly high—but its steep, towering cliffs jutting abruptly into the sky above deep valleys, coupled with the lack of surrounding peaks, create a vast and breathtakingly rugged landscape.
