Must-visit University Road in Korea on your trip to Korea, amazing performances back in Taiwan for Qixi Festival and Father’s Day

In Seoul, South Korea, there is an area where university students and young people gather, which has gradually developed into a youth-centered cultural street known as “University Road.” Performances take place here 365 days a year, earning it the nickname “Korea’s Broadway.” To promote the 2019 WELCOME Korea University Road Performance Tourism Festival, the Korea Tourism Organization specially invited classic University Road performances to Taiwan on August 7 and August 8, bringing these iconic Korean shows to life in Taiwan once again.

The ‘Next Stop, Let’s Go to Korea Together – University Road Joint Performance’ invites the world-renowned non-verbal performance Nanta, the most talked-about performance piece My Bucket List, and the heartwarming family musical Only You to Taiwan, warming up for the September WELCOME Korea University Road Festival. In addition to small gifts from each performance group during intermissions, the three shows coincide with Qixi Festival and Father’s Day, so the Korea Tourism Organization has also prepared special Father’s Day gifts [elegant Tai Chi fans] for dads attending the shows.

The WELCOME Korea University Road Performance Tourism Festival has been held since autumn 2017, and in 2019 it will take place from September 2 to October 27. Visitors can enjoy a variety of Korean performances on University Road, including non-verbal, traditional, musicals, and plays (some with foreign language subtitles), as well as fan meet-and-greets and various hidden special events.

Known as “Korea’s Broadway,” University Road has over 160 large and small performance venues, more than the combined total of over 40 venues in New York’s Broadway and over 50 in London’s West End, making it arguably the largest in the world. University Road and its surrounding areas are also popular tourist destinations in Korea. It’s just a 10-minute walk to Namsan Park, one of Seoul’s top night view spots. The Seoul City Wall along Namsan Park leads to Dongdaemun Shopping District, and you can also take transportation to nearby Gwangjang Market to enjoy authentic Korean cuisine.
