Located in Keelung, Nuannuan is Taiwan’s earliest water source area, boasting abundant natural landscapes, ecological environments, walking trails, and family-friendly parks. It’s a highly worthwhile destination—take your family for a day trip to Nuannuan this weekend!

Known locally as Bat Cave, Nongdong Canyon features a shallow stream at its bottom, with rugged rocks throughout the valley forming a spectacular sight. The creek is flanked by cliffs and caves, presenting a majestic landscape. Situated at the headwaters of Dongshihiang Creek, the canyon was formed when the stream cut through a reverse fault sandstone layer, creating a transverse valley. With its winding stream and rich small-scale fluvial landforms, it offers stunning scenery.

Xishi Reservoir is located on Xishi River, the upper reaches of Nuannuan River. With beautiful scenery, it was built during the Japanese colonial period. As a small reservoir situated at an elevation of 70 meters, it has an effective storage capacity of 550,000 cubic meters. Originally supplying water to Keelung, it now serves as a backup reservoir when the Xinshan Reservoir falls short.

The Dingnei Flood Prevention Trail is a flood control road along the Dingnei section of the Keelung River, managed by the 10th River Management Office of the Water Resources Agency under the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Spanning approximately 600 meters and featuring a suspension bridge over the Keelung River, it has become a popular spot for exercise and leisure among local residents. The scenic trail is ideal for families to explore together.

The summit of Dingnei Jian offers great views; on clear days, you can see the open sea outside Keelung Harbor, Keelung Islet, and even Taipei 101. The mountain also features the ruins of a Qing Dynasty-era artillery battery, adding historical significance to its natural beauty. Visitors can access the trail from the Longmen Valley area of Dingnei. Cars can be parked near the sign for Guanyin Hall on the Nuannuan Industrial Road, after which you can follow the signs and stairway trail leading up to the hall.
