Hualien Railway Station has recently completed its second-phase construction project, making its grand debut with a refreshed appearance. The station now features 10 towering and magnificent "Welcome Umbrellas" hanging inside, along with a public art installation called the "Hualien Whale Wonder" floor, which, through spatial and visual transparency, seamlessly integrates the landscape of eastern Taiwan’s beautiful mountains and waters with the architecture, heralding a completely renewed atmosphere.

As the only first-class railway station in eastern Taiwan operated by Taiwan Railways, Hualien Station sees approximately 30,000 passengers passing through daily, generating revenue second only to Taipei Main Station. The redesigned new station allows travelers to easily view the towering Central Mountain Range behind it. Its concept reflects the relationship between mountain and sea, climate and industry, harmonizing the station with the urban environment.

Currently, 16 businesses have moved into the station’s shopping street, while the former east station will be transformed into an exit hall, featuring a tourist service center, a bicycle refill station, four garden-style canopy halls in front of the station, landscaping projects, and additional public restrooms. Subsequent to the completion of the public art "Hualien Whale Wonder" floor installation, key facilities such as the official exit ticket gates at the east station are planned to gradually open for use after the end of September.

The newly renovated Hualien Railway Station offers a usable area of 4,310 square meters, significantly increasing waiting and commercial spaces. Additionally, the number of lanes at the station square has been expanded, providing passengers with a safer, more convenient, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing travel environment. It has become a new hub for tourism, sightseeing, and leisure in the Hualien area.
