Mid-Autumn Gift Alert: Yaki Yaki Cake Roll Goes Cross-Brand with Chara’s Comic

As Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, it also marks the one-year anniversary of the YTM cake and dessert vending machines by Yaki Yaki. In celebration, they’ve teamed up with the popular LINE illustration character “Chara’s Comic” to transform everything from the YTM machines to store decor and milk roll boxes, all donning limited-time Chara-themed outfits. Additionally, they’re offering gift-with-purchase bonuses, pop-up events, parent-child DIY workshops, and new flavor launches—all to celebrate Mid-Autumn and the first anniversary with some adorable Chara charm.

In this cross-brand collaboration, all members of the Chara’s Comic family come together—Slacker Chara, Silly Chara, Heavenly Chara, Aji, and the Prince—for a Mid-Autumn reunion. From metro station YTM machines and store decorations to milk roll boxes, you’ll spot these adorable Chara characters everywhere, super cute and heartwarming. Unlike traditional mooncakes, enjoying a milk roll this Mid-Autumn also brings festive joy.

The new Mid-Autumn products also introduce autumn specialties like “chestnuts” and Tokyo’s queue-worthy sweets, with a total of four new items offering fresh gifting options. Moreover, at 4:30 PM and 5:30 PM on September 4th, popular characters “Slacker Chara” and “Aji” will make a special appearance at Yaki Yaki’s YTM North Station kiosk for a half-hour pop-up, inviting everyone to sample milk rolls and experience the convenience of YTM.

The newly launched “Yaki Yaki Milk Roll – French Chestnut” features chestnut purée from “André Cluizel,” France’s oldest and top-ranked chestnut brand, with no artificial additives. It highlights the rich sweetness of chestnuts with a hint of rum aroma, paired with refreshing Hokkaido cream and custard. Chocolate batter is used to create elegant decorative lines, adding a refined texture and the delicate layers typical of French pastries.

Additionally, Tokyo’s latest queue-worthy sweet—the semi-baked, caramelized “Basque Fresh Cheesecake”—is now available. Originating from Spain, the “Burnt Cheesecake” was hailed by The New York Times as the 2019 Dessert of the Year. Yaki Yaki has adapted and developed this recipe using Hokkaido fresh cheese and aged Gouda, resulting in a rich caramel aroma. The gooey, semi-baked center melts in your mouth, offering a flan-like texture with aromatic notes that linger.
