Mitsui Outlet Makes Its Move to Southern Taiwan Confirmed: A Japanese-Style Smart Commercial City to Boost Tourism

Mitsui Fudosan Group has confirmed plans to launch its third “MITSUI OUTLET PARK Tainan” in Taiwan after the openings of MITSUI OUTLET PARK Linkou and MITSUI OUTLET PARK Taichung Port. It is scheduled to be completed and open in 2022.

“MITSUI OUTLET PARK Tainan” is geographically located in Tainan, an important metropolitan center in southern Taiwan. It is adjacent to the “Tainan Station” of the High-Speed Rail, the “Shalun Station” on the Taiwan Railways’ Shalun Line, about 16 kilometers from downtown Tainan, approximately 41 kilometers from downtown Kaohsiung, and near the Datant Intersection of the Guanmiao Line of the East-West Expressway. It boasts exceptional transportation convenience.

In addition to its transportation advantages, the site is close to the “Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City,” which was launched at the end of 2019. This includes the Taiwan Autonomous Driving Test Center, a convention and exhibition center, the Taiwan Sugar Smart Green Energy Circular Residential project, as well as nearby academic institutions. Once MITSUI OUTLET PARK Tainan is completed, it will form a new smart commercial city around Tainan High-Speed Rail Station that integrates green energy, culture, and commerce in southern Taiwan, boosting tourism development in Southern Taiwan.

On January 20, the groundbreaking ceremony was presided over by Osamu Obayashi, Executive Officer of Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. in Japan, and Kazuro Shimomachi, Chairman of Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. in Taiwan. Vice President Lai Ching-te, Minister of Transportation Lin Chia-lung, Railway Bureau Director Hu Xianglin, Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che, as well as officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and local representatives, were invited, and the ceremony was successfully completed.

MITSUI OUTLET PARK Tainan is planned for development in two phases. The first phase will include approximately 160 stores and is scheduled to open in 2022. With the second phase expected to open in 2025, the total number of stores could reach about 220, making it the largest outlet park in the Tainan metropolitan area.
