Taoyuan’s newly built “Shiyifen Cultural and Tourism Park,” after over a year of renovation, was completed and opened to the public at the end of August. With a theme centered around cultural creativity and eco-tourism, the park retains the look of the original military village bungalows, giving these aged residences a fresh feel. It serves as an artsy village perfect for strolling and photography, while also promoting tourism, cultural creativity development, and nature education.

Located near the Shimen Reservoir, Shiyifen Cultural and Tourism Park covers about 1,000 pyeong (approximately 3,300 square meters). It was reconstructed from the Shiyifen Ji’an Market, the former Garden Restaurant, and five old dormitories of the North Water Resources Bureau. The old military dependents’ village buildings have been refurbished to present a clean and refreshing look, while still retaining the unique charm of the original military village.

As time has passed, this land rich in local stories has embraced the concept of cultural creativity, blending unique Taiwanese culture and art. The blockbuster movie “Our Times” was also filmed here in Shiyifen. On your next trip to the Shimen Reservoir, aside from enjoying fresh river delicacies, you can also revisit scenes from the film and experience hands-on craft workshops.

The 50-year-old Ji’an Market and the over 60-year-old dormitory area have been renovated into a cultural and tourism park. They will gradually open up to host artist residencies and undergo subsequent business recruitment, focusing on cultural creativity and eco-tourism to revive the charm of Shimen.

In addition, renovation projects are underway around the Shimen Reservoir, aiming to establish it as Taoyuan’s first low-carbon tourism destination. Among them, the Xizhou Tourism Service Center’s low-carbon transit station will, upon completion, use low-carbon electric shuttle vehicles to transport visitors, encouraging the use of eco-friendly transport to explore the reservoir and enrich both the depth and breadth of travel experiences around Shimen.
