According to statistics from the Tourism Bureau, South Korea is among the top five countries most loved by Taiwanese travelers, and Korean cuisine is one of the main travel motivations. In recent years, the growth in the number of Japanese and Korean restaurants in Taiwan has been the most significant. Recognizing the power of Korean trends, FamilyMart officially announced that its affiliate “FamilyMart International Dining” is upgrading its collaboration with bb.q CHICKEN, the largest fried chicken brand in South Korea by number of stores. The operation of bb.q CHICKEN in Taiwan will transition into a restaurant model, and the flagship bb.q CHICKEN restaurant is expected to make its first appearance in Taiwan in November, setting up shop in Taipei’s prime dining district.

Wu Sheng-fu, Vice President of FamilyMart and Chairman of FamilyMart International Dining, stated that as the top Korean fried chicken brand, bb.q CHICKEN has tested the waters of the Taiwanese consumer market through the composite store model operated by FamilyMart, showing great potential. This time, the brand is introducing a full-scale restaurant operation model in the form of its highest-spec flagship store, managed under GENESIS BBQ. It aims to bring an authentic dining experience to fans of Korean food, satisfying Taiwanese consumers’ desire for the genuine Korean-style fried chicken restaurant culture familiar from K-dramas, a comfortable and lively dining space, a variety of drink pairings, and social gathering needs.

Third Brand of FamilyMart International Dining – Launching in Taipei’s Prime Dining District in November

The bb.q CHICKEN flagship restaurant will be the third overseas chain brand introduced by FamilyMart International Dining. Targeting women aged 25–40 who love Korean pop culture, it will offer over 50 varieties of Korean fried chicken, Korean dishes, and popular Korean-style Western cuisine. The first bb.q CHICKEN flagship restaurant will arrive in Taiwan in November, setting up in Taipei’s prime dining district. Fans of authentic Korean fried chicken and cuisine, stay tuned.

In the drama “Goblin,” actress Yoo In-na played Sunny, the owner of a fried chicken shop — which is actually a branch of bb.q CHICKEN.

FamilyMart International Dining currently has an annual turnover of nearly NT$1 billion, with two brands: “Ohya” and “Walker Steak.” Once the bb.q CHICKEN flagship restaurant is introduced, the lineup will cover a variety of international cuisines including Japanese, Korean, and Western, while also serving both everyday meals and dining-out markets.

bb.q CHICKEN was founded in 1995 and is the fried chicken chain with the most stores in South Korea. Since 2003, it has expanded overseas and now operates in 25 countries, with approximately 3,350 stores globally.
