Around 9:30 a.m. this morning, the cross-sea bridge in Nanfangao, Yilan, collapsed, with several fishing boats pinned beneath the bridge at the piers, while an oil tanker on the road surface was also crushed due to the broken roadway, resulting in thick smoke filling the area. Emergency responders are urgently conducting rescue operations, and relevant authorities have also arrived at the scene for further investigation. It is known that 10 people have been injured and sent to hospital, and 5 are missing.

Four people have died, 12 have been injured, and 2 are missing. The missing individuals are foreign fishermen on board the fishing boats. After the bridge collapsed, it blocked the channel for fishing boats to leave the harbor, leaving 400 fishing boats unable to operate, causing huge losses. As it is the peak season for mackerel production, fishermen have suffered significant losses.

The Su’ao Township Office also issued a statement, currently implementing traffic control at the scene, prioritizing the passage of emergency vehicles. If unnecessary, please try to avoid entering the area or gathering around to allow rescue personnel space to conduct their operations.

The Nanfangao Cross-sea Bridge was completed in 1998 and is the only single-steel arch bridge in the country, as well as the first double-cantilever single-arch bridge in Asia. The bridge is 140 meters long and 15 meters wide, spanning the fishing port channel to solve the problem of large fishing boats being unable to pass through. It is unknown how long it will take to see its beauty again after this collapse.
