The tunnel in Spirited Away is an iconic scene from Studio Ghibli’s film, where passing through it leads to a fantastical world. It's now become a romantic hidden spot for travelers to snap stunning photos on weekend outings.

Tunnel No. 8 is located next to the Tai’an Railway Cultural Park in Houli, Taichung. Its railway has a history of over 100 years, and visitors must navigate through layers of overgrown weeds to explore the old Mountain Line Tunnel No. 8.

Tunnel No. 8 has a history of 100 years and stretches 518.6 meters in length. Although the area is sparsely populated and overgrown with weeds, the abundant vegetation contributes to the site’s unique ambiance.

The journey to the tunnel is about 1 kilometer, during which you’ll pass crystal-clear greenish-blue river water and a tranquil forest. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some adorable bats.

Photographers who enjoy capturing abandoned or moody vibes: if you plan to visit Tunnel No. 8, it’s best to go with company. The tunnel is old and unmaintained, with thick overgrowth, and poor weather conditions should be carefully considered—you shouldn’t push it.
