As the autumn chill sets in and sunlight filters through the maple leaves, cyclists weave through the woods. Known as Taiwan’s longest maple forest bike tunnel, this spot transforms into an incredibly romantic red leaf wonderland every fall and winter, attracting countless photography enthusiasts seeking stunning photo backdrops.

The Danongdafu Plain Forest Park is located in Guangfu Township, Hualien County, nestled in the Huatung Valley. Flanked by the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range like protective wings, this emerald gem features a 13-kilometer cycling path that winds through the forests of the north-south loop.

Along the trail, you’ll find diverse and lush woodland, including Taiwan beech, Michelia compressa, camphor trees, glossycalyx plane trees, sweetgum, Machilus kusanoi, Ligustrum quihoui, cyclobalanopsis glauca, Chinese tallow trees, and koelreuteria paniculata, forming a vast sea of trees with expansive views.

During the day, fresh mist invigorates the senses, creating a dreamy red foliage beauty. At noon, brilliant sunlight bathes the maple leaves as if coating them in maltose. Later in the day, cycling through the woods as the wind carries fallen red leaves adds to the romance.

With the arrival of autumn, nature begins to transform, and the maple forest gradually sheds its green coat. During this beautiful fall and winter season, cyclists can ride along Taiwan’s longest forest bike path to fully appreciate the scenery, and it’s recommended to reserve a bike rental in advance.
