The New Taipei Circular Line, which runs entirely within New Taipei City, has received official operational approval from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications on January 16 after completing all pre-operational improvements.

New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih announced during an inspection on the 16th that free trial rides on the New Taipei Circular Line will begin three days after receiving the Ministry of Transportation and Communications' operational approval, starting on Sunday, January 19.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, passengers using electronic tickets to enter or exit at stations on the Circular Line can ride that section of the route for free, while other segments will remain at current fares. Single-journey paper tickets will not be discounted and will continue to be charged at approved rates.
In coordination with Taipei Metro’s planning, trial ride hours are set from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Besides ensuring safety, this schedule also allows time after service hours to address any minor issues and make improvements, ensuring more stable service going forward.

The free trial period will run from the 19th until just before the official opening ceremony. As Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je is currently abroad and will only return before Little New Year’s Eve, the exact opening date is still to be jointly decided by the mayors of Taipei and New Taipei. It is expected to take place after the Lunar New Year, followed by a one-month period of free operation.
Additionally, during the trial period, train frequency will follow off-peak schedules, generally one train every 8 minutes, with additional trains added flexibly based on passenger flow. After the official launch, peak-hour frequency is planned to be 4–7 minutes, and off-peak frequency 5–10 minutes.
Spanning 15.4 kilometers, the New Taipei Circular Line crosses major districts of New Taipei City including Xindian, Zhonghe, Banqiao, and Xinzhuang, with 14 stations and 1 depot. It connects with multiple metro lines, offering diverse transfer options that can significantly reduce travel time.
For example, traveling from Dapinglin Station in Xindian to Jingan Station in Zhonghe previously required taking the Songshan–Xindian Line to Guting Station and then transferring to the Zhonghe–Xinlu Line to reach Jingan, taking about 19 minutes. With the New Taipei Circular Line, no transfer is needed, saving 11 minutes. Travel from Dapinglin Station to the New Taipei Industrial Park Station can even save up to 20 minutes, providing commuters and travelers with a fast and convenient new public transport option.
