The most beautiful lantern art displays ever seen—Unlimited photo opportunities in the City of Moonlight

The winter highlight at the Moon River Art Museum and the highly anticipated "2020 Moon Harbor Lantern Festival" will dazzle from January 18 to February 16 around Moon Harbor in Yanshui District, Tainan City.

With the theme of "Mirage," this year’s lantern festival presents a total of 51 spectacular art lantern installations created by domestic and international artists, selected university and college teams, as well as works from the ongoing “City of Moonlight” project at the Moon River Art Museum.

For the first time, this year’s lantern festival is fully installed across both the waters of Moon Harbor and the alleyway lantern zones. It also incorporates multimedia art, including augmented reality (AR) technology and sound-light effects, allowing static artworks to interact with the public in diverse ways.

The exciting opening event on January 18 at 7 PM at the floating dock of Moon Harbor not only features an aquatic theater performance with light and shadow projections, but also welcomes performances by singers Wei Ya-wen, Cho Yi-heng, and Fish Leong.

The artistically renowned "Moon Harbor Lantern Festival," held for nearly a decade, has already attracted 4.3 million visitors to the area. To expand and extend the impact of the festival, starting in 2019, the city government launched the "Moon River Art Museum" initiative based on Yanshui’s rich historical culture and ecological landscape. In late November, the autumn exhibition “City of Moonlight” was first launched in the neighborhood alleys, serving as a prelude to the lantern festival.
