This is the former railway station of Qishan Sugar Factory, located near the intersection of Fuxin Street and Zhongshan Road in Dali. The entire building exudes a relaxed and lively rhythm, especially its wooden structure, which presents a natural and elegant rustic beauty. The varied window frames add even more visual delight.

Located at Xiao Shan Qiu Dessert Workshop in Qishan, this spot sells egg waffles that blend Korean-style “one-egg” cakes with their own unique recipes. They are very particular about ingredient selection, emphasizing delicacy, naturalness, healthiness, and deliciousness. They use French-certified butter, Japanese flour, and traceable eggs, and the fillings are also carefully crafted, featuring both mozzarella and cheddar cheese.

Originally named Qimei Sugar Factory, Qishan Sugar Factory was established in 1909 by the Takasago Sugar Refining Co., Ltd. In the 1960s, facing low-price competition from other developing countries, its output gradually declined, and production ceased in the 1980s, with the railway network eventually being dismantled. The Japanese-era factory buildings, red-brick warehouses, and the factory manager’s residence are still well preserved. The towering chimney remains the most iconic landmark of the sugar factory. Near the entrance, a visitor rest area has been developed, selling various diversified products from Taiwan Sugar. Among the best-selling items are popsicles and ice cream. If you have a chance to visit Qishan, be sure to stop by the sugar factory and enjoy these cool and sweet treats.

The Qishan pseudo-Baroque style street-front buildings are all two-story structures. In addition to brick-and-wood construction, some also use concrete. The roof trusses are wooden sloped-roof buildings, with the street-facing facades being the most distinctive—often using reinforced concrete structures, and decorated with plain bricks, washed stone, and ceramic tiles. They particularly emphasize the styling of columns, doors and windows, window sills, as well as the elaborate patterns on the gables, fully showcasing the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the builders at the time.
