Just Mercy
*Just Mercy* is based on the award-winning non-fiction bestseller by Bryan Stevenson (played by Michael B. Jordan). After graduating from Harvard Law School, Bryan turns down numerous high-paying job offers and chooses to go to Alabama. With the full support of local civil rights activist Eva Ansley (played by Brie Larson), he dedicates himself to providing proper legal services for the disadvantaged who have been wrongfully convicted or cannot afford legal representation. Shortly after arriving in Alabama, he takes on one of his most challenging cases: Walter McMillian (played by Jamie Foxx), who was sentenced to death. In 1987, Walter was accused of murdering an 18-year-old woman. Despite multiple pieces of evidence proving his innocence, the judge sentenced him to death based solely on the testimony of another criminal with a motive to lie.
Over the following years, Bryan does everything in his power to help Walter and other prisoners who have faced unfair treatment by the justice system. He not only works to build trust between the suspects and their families but also finds himself trapped in a judicial maze riddled with racism, political corruption, and conspiracy.
