Stroll Above the Clouds to Witness Breathtaking Views – A Dreamy Spot for Cloud Waterfalls and Sunset Photography

When thick clouds gather, they surge like ocean waves, creating a breathtaking, overwhelming momentum that has long captivated photographers, hikers, and camping enthusiasts. The most spectacular views usually appear from November to March each year, and this dreamy cloud waterfall and sunset photography spot allows travelers to stroll above the clouds and take in the fantastical scenery.

The entrance to the Er-Yanping Trail is located beside Highway 18 at the 53.5K mark. The entrance leads directly to the viewing platform. The trail is 800 meters long and takes about 50 minutes for a round trip. The path was originally created by mountain residents during early land reclamation, passing through the gap between Qiding Mountain and Er-Yanping Mountain.

Located on Alishan, the Qiding-Er-Yan Trail is most famous for its tea plantation path paired with sea of clouds and sunset scenery—consistently ranking high on the list of favorite spots for photography enthusiasts.

Especially at sunset, the orange-red hues bathe the rolling sea of clouds with life, while the descending path gives the feeling of being able to walk into the clouds. The trail adds a unique kind of beauty to this magnificent seascape.

The newly added section of the trail begins at the pavilion at the end of the original trail and continues uphill as a wooden boardwalk. Along the way, you’ll encounter various landscapes including bamboo forests, peculiar rocks, and tea plantations, with views overlooking the Chianan Plain, Renyi Pond, and Lan Tan Reservoir. On clear days, you can even gaze at the outer harbors of Dongshi and Budai, and to the east, the peaks of Yushan.
