On the luxury cruise ship Virginian, coal worker Danny one day finds an abandoned baby on the piano. It happens to be New Year's Day, 1900. Illiterate, he names the baby “1900” and raises him as his own son.
After Danny’s death, “1900,” who has always lived in the lower decks of the ship and never set foot on land, gradually grows up. One night, he plays beautiful music on the piano, waking everyone on board. From then on, he leaves his dark life below deck behind and begins his performing career.
