Nestled in the highlands of Nagano Prefecture, Karuizawa is a popular summer retreat and weekend getaway for Tokyo residents. Come December, when the world celebrates the festive season, the renowned Highland Church (formerly known as the Starry Sky Hall) in Karuizawa lights up its starry Christmas tree. The surrounding forest also twinkles with warm candlelight, spreading holiday cheer.

This year, the Highland Church Christmas Candle Night will take place from December 1 to December 25, 2019. Every evening from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM, the sacred forest around the church is illuminated. Numerous dazzling Christmas trees and countless lanterns with candles light up the night sky, becoming a favorite photo spot for visitors.

During the illumination period, the church also offers several special experiences, including Christmas concerts and handbell performances, to share the joy of the season. For more details, please refer to the official Highland Church website. A gentle reminder: temperatures at Karuizawa Highland Church can get quite low in the evenings, so please dress warmly.
