By using the “automatic immigration clearance system e-Gate,” you don’t have to waste precious travel time waiting in line for manual immigration checks, allowing for a fast and elegant entry and exit process. In addition to Italy, Taiwan has also successively established mutual e-Gate use agreements with the United States, South Korea, and Australia. As of August this year, the total number of travelers from these three countries who have applied to register and use the system has exceeded 210,000.

Taiwanese traveling to Italy who are 14 years of age or older do not need to apply in advance. They can simply scan the photo page of their passport at the gate in Italian airports and go through facial and fingerprint recognition to clear immigration automatically. Italian visitors to Taiwan who hold a chip passport valid for more than six months, have no record of violating laws in Taiwan, and meet the requirements can register for free to use the e-Gate for entry and exit in Taiwan.

Individuals who are 14 years of age or older, at least 140 cm tall, and carry their passport along with a second ID that includes a photo (choose one from an ID card, National Health Insurance card, or driver’s license); or foreigners aged 14 or above, residents from mainland China, and Hong Kong and Macau residents who have residency status in Taiwan and possess multiple re-entry permits, can also bring their passport and residence permit to register for free at registration counters at airports, various service centers, and the Bureau of Consular Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
