From January 10 (Friday) to January 13 (Monday), 2020, designated as the election transport period, 54 additional train services have been scheduled (29 southbound and 25 northbound), providing a total of 667 train services over the four days. The “University Student Discount” and “Early Bird Discount” will continue to be available. Passengers may purchase round-trip tickets for the transport period starting from midnight on December 14 (Saturday), with the timetable provided in the attachment. It is also recommended to take advantage of the “University Student Discount” and “Early Bird Discount” on applicable services during this period.
Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation stated that there will be large crowds of voters returning home during the election transport period. Passengers are advised to reserve seats in advance. In addition to booking via the THSR online ticketing system, passengers may also use the “T Express Mobile Ticketing” app or over 10,000 convenience stores nationwide that partner with THSR for off-site ticket purchases. By completing payment and picking up tickets in advance, valuable time queuing at the station can be saved, allowing for a smooth entry and boarding. Each service also provides 3 to 5 cars with non-reserved seating. Passengers holding periodical tickets, return tickets, or EasyCard/iPass co-branded cards (with auto top-up enabled) may enter and board directly by tapping their cards.
During the Taiwan High Speed Rail election transport period, 207 services are eligible for the Early Bird Discount, accounting for over 31% of the total number of services. Passengers who book tickets 5 to 28 days before their travel date may enjoy Early Bird discounts of 65%, 80%, or 90%. At the same time, special offers such as the “University Student Discount,” “Standard Carriage Reserved Seat Cardholder Discount,” and “Business Carriage Limited Upgrade” will be available during the election transport period. However, promotions such as “Member Month Go Gift,” “Groups of 25 or More,” and “School Excursions” will not be applicable.
