The Tefuye Ancient Trail is situated at the border between Alishan Township in Chiayi and Xinyi Township in Nantou, originally a vital hunting route for the Tsou people of northern Taiwan.

During the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese built a railway along this ancient trail to transport abundant forest resources from Alishan, facilitating the movement of red cypress and hinoki.

Although the timber transport function is no longer in use today, the old railway tracks, beautiful trestle walkways, and ancient cypress bridges remain, allowing travelers to experience the area’s former glory.

The front section of the Tefuye Ancient Trail is gentle, lined with cedar forests, while the latter section features a steep downhill slope with sleeper stairs and is surrounded by broadleaf primeval forest—making it a user-friendly trail suitable for anyone with regular exercise habits.
