The union between Lin Chi-ling and AKIRA is a cross-strait marriage, and Tainan Art Museum’s Gallery 1 is a Western-style building from the Japanese colonial period—these two elements subtly highlight the connection between Taiwan and Japan.

The former site of Tainan Art Museum Gallery 1 was the Tainan City Police Department headquarters, designed by architect Shigeru Umezawa—the same architect behind Tainan’s famous landmark, the LIN Department Store. After redevelopment, it was completed in August 2018 and began trial operations on October 17, 2018.

Tainan Art Museum Gallery 2 was jointly developed by architect Shi Zhaoyong and the Shigeru Ban Architects firm, completed in mid-January 2019, and officially opened together with Gallery 1 on January 27, 2019.
