Walking along the super thrilling ridge trail and embracing 360-degree unobstructed breathtaking views, you get to appreciate the beautiful city of Taipei from a completely different perspective. Escape the city on the weekend, head into the suburbs, embrace nature, and let the magnificent scenery heal your body and mind.
Walking along the ridge trail is insanely thrilling.
Located in Wuliaojian in Sanxia, Greater Taipei, this is a much-loved hiking spot among many mountain enthusiasts. It gets especially crowded on weekends—arrive late and you’ll not only struggle to find parking, but also have to queue up at the trailhead before starting the climb.
The Wuliaojian Trail features several sections where you need to use ropes to climb.
Known as one of the “Three Major Rock Climbing Areas in Northern Taiwan,” Wuliaojian is a challenging and exciting mountain trail. Along the way, there are many sections that require rope-assisted climbing or rappelling—good leg strength is a must, and you’ll also need decent arm power.
The standalone peak midway through the Wuliaojian Trail requires rope-assisted climbing.
Also called Jiulong Mountain, Wuliaojian stands 639 meters above sea level. Its mountain shape resembles multiple undulating rock formations clustered together. Hikers can enjoy the sensation of rolling forested hills and lush greenery along the trail.
You can enjoy distant views of layered mountain ranges and verdant forests.
Reaching the mountaintop not only offers views of the entire Sanxia River basin, but on clear days with wide visibility, you can even take in the vast panorama of Greater Taipei—including Linkou Plateau, Guanyin Mountain, the Tamsui River estuary, Shilin, and Beitou.
