Travel-related aftereffects shouldn’t include bringing home an illness, yet many friends still get sick after trips. Why does this happen?
1. Not Adapting to the New Environment
In our familiar daily lives, we’re accustomed to our surroundings—even our body’s antibodies are used to them. But when we go to a new place, that balance is disrupted. When exposed to unfamiliar bacteria, we can easily fall ill. Add to that the fatigue from traveling, and you become even more susceptible to sickness in an unfamiliar environment. So, always wash your hands before eating, and if no water is available, carry alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
2. The Stress of Returning to Work
Travel is supposed to be a relaxing getaway, but somehow some friends bring work stress along. They stay tense throughout the trip, constantly thinking about work, dreading the return date, and eventually get sick under all that pressure. Just let work go while you’re traveling—enjoy the trip, then focus on work when you get back.
3. Overplaying and Not Sleeping Enough
Lack of sleep is one of the main factors that can make you sick during a trip. We often try to cram 48 hours of activities into 24, playing as much as possible. But when you sacrifice sleep and stay in a constant state of excitement, you can easily fall ill without even realizing it.
4. Not Drinking Enough Water
While traveling, we’re often so caught up in having fun that we forget to drink water regularly. We only remember to hydrate when we’re already very thirsty—but thirst is already a warning sign from your body. Even if you don’t feel thirsty, make sure to drink water regularly to prevent heatstroke or other issues.
5. Not Using Sun Protection
Sun protection isn’t just for women. People of all ages and genders should protect themselves from strong sunlight. Many travelers develop skin problems after returning home simply because they didn’t use proper sun protection. Prevention is always better than cure.
If you feel unwell after returning from a trip, seek medical attention as soon as possible.
