Abashiri Warmth Festival

Held every year from late January to early March in Abashiri, the Abashiri Warmth Festival is a wonderfully curated event set against the icy, snowy scenery of the north. But unlike other winter festivals, its promotional materials and activities radiate warmth that touches the heart, making you eager to dive into sub-zero temperatures of minus 20°C or lower to experience the most exhilarating winter ever!
Every winter, Hokkaido is blanketed in thick snow, prompting locals to organize a variety of distinctive winter carnivals in the snowy north. Among them, the Abashiri Warmth Festival is a must-visit and truly memorable celebration. The festival takes place around Lake Abashiri. Starting around December, the lake gradually begins to freeze over, and from January to March, when the ice becomes thick and solid enough, the lake enters its liveliest time of the year.
