The "Alishan Sunrise Impression New Year’s Eve Concert," which centers on classical music and is hailed as the most elegant New Year’s event in the country, will be a distinctive choice. The 8th edition, the "2010 Alishan New Year Welcoming & Sunrise Concert," will take place on January 1st and 2nd at the Alishan Forest Recreation Area. Visitors are encouraged to head up the mountain to welcome the new year and embrace fresh hopes amid gentle melodies.
This year’s event is themed “Hope of Dawn,” praying for happiness and hope for all people in the coming year. The concert returns to nature with a presentation of “High Mountain Music,” featuring consecutive performances of music and dance at various locations within the Alishan Forest Recreation Area, including Mt. Ogasawara, the Zhushan Waiting Shelter, the Visitor Service Center, and the Xianglin Sacred Tree Area—offering attendees a heartwarming musical feast.
Performances include a flute recital by Chen Limei, principal flutist of the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, a New Year’s Welcoming Concert, an exciting Tsou ethnic song and dance carnival, refreshing world highland music, and string performances. The female vocal group Zhu Nü Meisheng and the duo Orion will also deliver moving songs. This year, an indigenous band from Mexico will also perform, bringing a unique taste of South American flair.
After enjoying the fresh and romantic music, take a short forest excursion to make your Alishan trip even more memorable. To explore the Alishan Forest Recreation Area, start with the Sisters Ponds, then visit along the way landmarks such as the Guangwu Cypress, Thousand-Year Cypress, First Giant Tree Trail, Tree Spirit Tower, Four Sisters, Three Brothers, the former site of the Alishan Sacred Tree, Shouzhen Temple, and Ciyun Temple.
