From February to mid-March each year, the annual "Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras" takes place, with a two-week program of varied and colorful activities such as opera performances, performing arts, comedy, music, and visual arts, allowing visitors to enjoy or participate in the festivities.
This year’s Mardi Gras runs from February 19 to March 7, with the highly anticipated parade taking place on February 27, marking the climax of the two-week event. This dazzling and vibrant carnival is sure to amaze. As the parade kicks off in the evening, elaborately decorated floats and marching groups wind through downtown Sydney, transforming the city into a jubilant atmosphere. International contingents and community groups from around the world showcase their creativity with eye-catching designs and striking costumes.
During the event, the parade paints Sydney in a riot of colors, featuring extravagantly dressed Thai ladyboy troupes, police squads, military units, Australian lifeguards, and motorcycle clubs, among others.
