The ultra-popular vacation destination—Guam—is a dream island for many. Recently, the Guam Visitors Bureau and the Mayor of Hagåtña unveiled the village mural “We Are Hagåtña,” showcasing the rich historical and cultural side of Guam, and through the paintings by artist Tim Hanley, transforming ordinary walls into vivid works of art.
Hagåtña, located in central Guam, is home to the island’s capital, legislature, and administrative buildings. The name “Hagåtña” originates from “Haga,” meaning “blood.” The village murals turn ordinary roadside walls into historically meaningful artworks, promoting the unique history embedded in various aspects through village beautification.
Hagåtña Mayor John Cruz stated: The village murals depict the vibrant lifeblood of the village and the island, covering everything from saints, historical figures, to heritage sites. Viewers can explore the entire historical trajectory of Guam through these works.

Artist Tim Hanley has previously painted iconic historical figures such as Pope John Paul II, as well as depicted the Agana Marina ruins and the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament.
