The annual arts highlight in Sanyi, the “2010 Sanyi International Woodcarving Art Festival,” has debuted to great anticipation. Running from August 7 to August 29, it presents woodcarvings of international caliber, along with engaging artistic, musical, entertaining, and interactive events that offer the public a distinctive take on woodcarving aesthetics.

This year’s international woodcarving art festival features a “Summer Crystal Ice Sculpture Show,” an interactive “Creative DIY Painting” session, a “Life Aesthetics Product Exhibition,” and the “Roaming Bodhidharma Bus” that takes you on a journey through the woodcarving art scattered across Sanyi. Live demonstrations by woodcarvers are also available, allowing visitors to admire the masters’ exceptional craftsmanship.

In addition to woodcarving, the weekend outdoor concerts also deserve attention, featuring performances by international tenor Matthew Lien and popular idol singers from the “One Million Star” show. The “Street Parade Carnival” on August 15 is the highlight of the woodcarving art festival, beginning with a lively bodhidharma-themed float parade, joined by twenty creative teams from seven local communities, schools, and enterprises in Sanyi, marching together to showcase the town’s vibrant blend of tradition and innovation.
This year’s international woodcarving competition gathers artists from 11 regions including Spain, Italy, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Macau, the UK, Israel, Portugal, and Taiwan, with a total of 58 works competing for awards. The winners will be announced at the opening ceremony of the Sanyi International Woodcarving Art Festival on August 15. Visitors can also appreciate the charm of the shortlisted works. By completing the event stamp collection at the venue over the weekend, the public can exchange for limited-edition souvenirs — “Civil and Martial Bodhidharma Figurines” — while learning about the diverse culture of woodcarving.
