The “Good Times Public Art Festival,” hosted by the National Taiwan Museum, combines various types of art performances and exhibitions to showcase diverse works and create more possibilities. Held from August 20 to November 20, the event primarily takes place in the heart of Taipei’s old city (Zhongzheng District), reinterpreting the charm of Taipei through the eyes of artists.

The first wave of works, the temporary art installation project “Invisible Time” — the audiovisual VJ show “Flow of Time? Memory,” kicks off the art festival. It projects colorful lights onto buildings, and features 13 temporary artworks scattered throughout the National Taiwan Museum system area. These include Japanese artist Takahiko Suzuki’s “Process” (inside the National Taiwan Museum), Japan’s Paramodel’s “Model Paradise,” Germany’s Aram Bartholl’s “Google Map Marker” (at the Railway Ministry Park), local artist Liu Her-Jang’s “Summer Carpet 16–38,” You Wen-Fu’s “Strolling Through Old Times” (at 228 Peace Park), Huang Lanyah’s “Splashing Water” (in the pond at 228 Peace Park), Qiu Zhao-Cai’s “Bubble Tower” (in front of the National Taiwan Museum plaza), Lee Wen-Cheng’s “Distant Train” (in the small parks on either side of the front of the museum), Tsui Yung-Chang’s “Let’s Go to Taipei City” (on the curtain wall facade of the Railway Ministry building), and Lee Kuo-Min & Chen Hsing-Chun’s “Ozone Brew?” (inside the museum and at the rear).
In addition to viewing the artworks, visitors can also explore the “Good Times Good Shopping” creative market on September 18 and 19 from 12 noon to 9 PM. The market uses its most important element — the burlap sack — to label the origin, flavor, capacity, and ingredients of each vendor’s offerings. Rice sacks printed with representative patterns of various factories and shops are deconstructed and reassembled into new creative installations, creating an engaging and imaginative market experience that allows participants to feel a close connection to the diverse industrial cultures of the city.
