A 70-year-old German mountaineer (wearing purple, from the UK Daily Mail website) fell 20 meters into a glacier crevasse in the Austrian Alps at an altitude of 3,000 meters in western Austria. He was trapped for a full six days but miraculously survived and was finally rescued on the 14th by Austrian rescue personnel.
The authorities did not release the name of the mountaineer, who, although exhausted, only suffered minor injuries after falling into the crevasse. Rescue workers used a helicopter to transport him to Innsbruck in western Austria for medical treatment.
The lucky German elderly man said that he had gone hiking alone in the Stubai Alps area a week ago. Perhaps because he wasn’t wearing crampons, he accidentally fell 20 meters into a glacier crevasse at an altitude of 3,000 meters. He kept shouting for help, and after many long days of waiting, other hikers finally heard his cries and called for rescue personnel.
