Baijiu is a favorite among many wine enthusiasts, and New Zealand wines have also been shining brightly in Asia in recent years. From June 2009 to June 2010, wine imports to China grew by as much as 180%, earning them the reputation of being the “rising stars.” NZ Pure Wine, the exclusive importer, brings in 11 red and white wines from various New Zealand wineries. Praised for their “pure and clean” taste, reminiscent of milk, these wines delight even the most discerning palates.

The globally acclaimed top-producing region is the Marlborough Marisco Vineyard’s “The Kings Favour Sauvignon Blanc 2009.” With its crystal-clear grass-green hue, this wine offers a lime sorbet-like taste and mineral aroma on the palate. Refreshingly balanced with a crisp, bright finish, it surprisingly pairs well with Asian dishes such as fried squid and seafood.

The 11 New Zealand wines introduced by NZ Pure Wine were all selected for use during the Shanghai World Expo. In Shanghai alone, they achieved weekly sales of 40 million RMB. Wine critics have hailed one of them as “Unforgettable, Sauvignon Blanc.” This wine is like a favored child blessed with excellent genes from both parents, combining exotic flavors from the New World with the spicy, citrusy notes of France’s Loire Valley Sancerre. Renowned British wine critic Oz Clarke described it as “Arguably the best in the world,” and 2009 was predicted to be its best vintage in a decade, making it the most inquired-about wine.
