The Lunar New Year is when families do their annual spring cleaning — why not take this chance to refresh your living space and give your home a brand-new look? From January 29 to February 20, the Taipei International Flora Exposition’s Pavilion of Blooming Beauty presents the “Wellness & Eco Living – Microclimate Science Special Exhibition,” which incorporates flowers into home décor to create a healthier living environment, showcasing how interior design can embrace eco-friendly and sustainable practices. Visitors can also see a room decorated entirely with pressed flowers — a project that took one year to complete — making it a truly rare and special exhibit.

The “Wellness & Eco Living – Microclimate Science Special Exhibition” brings real plants and flowers directly “into” the home. Rather than simple planting or decoration, it uses thousands of plant and floral varieties to create large indoor green walls, floral carpets, cushion seats woven from flowers, quilts and beds made with pressed flowers, and butterfly orchid screens — all showcasing imaginative designs that fill the exhibition area with delightful floral scents.

Among the exhibits, the bedroom and children’s room decorated using pressed flower techniques are the most unique parts of the entire exhibition. Everything on display — from quilts and pajamas to curtains and plush toys — is meticulously crafted by attaching pressed flowers. The project mobilized over 100 staff members who selected thousands of moisture-resistant flower varieties and spent nearly a year completing the displays.

Beyond unconventional décor, the various zones of the Wellness & Eco Living Expo also teach visitors how to use easily accessible green plants to enhance the “forest-fresh” atmosphere indoors. For entryways and living rooms, decorations include pink ornamental pineapples, butterfly orchids, and asparagus ferns, which help reduce carbon dioxide, formaldehyde, and benzene levels, while wrinkled-leaved peperomia can trap dust. Other plants like lemon-scented dracaena, dieffenbachia, and yellow palm help lower formaldehyde and carbon dioxide levels, and the yellow palm also absorbs trichloroethylene. For studies, mint and lavender can purify and freshen indoor air, helping to invigorate the mind — bringing the concept of “eco-living” directly into your home environment.
