With the summer vacation approaching, the Taichung City Salvation Army Youth Corps has launched a variety of family-friendly activities, educational tours, and fun-filled camps. In addition to continuing popular programs from previous years such as the Kangxie Royal Camp for therapeutic recreation, the Central Cross-Island Hiking Activity, the Little Tarzan Experience Camp, and the Kids’ Adventure Summer Camp, this year also sees the debut of the Triathlon Little Heroes program and the Grandparents & Grandkids Bonding Activity “Grandparents & Kids Card Game,” aimed at strengthening intergenerational relationships. Both adults and children are welcome to sign up.
The Salvation Army Youth Corps noted that Taiwan’s road infrastructure is well-developed, and with the growing trend toward energy conservation and carbon reduction in recent years, cycling has become a national pastime. Taichung City also offers excellent cycling facilities, making it an ideal place to nurture children’s interest in the activity as a recreational pursuit. Specifically, the Corps has designed a program that introduces children to diverse cycling methods, allowing them to experience off-road biking, forest trail courses, international UCI-level dirt jumps, and hill-climbing exercises at the Tieshanjiao Cycling Sports Village. The program also includes exploring the cultural geography and natural landscapes along the route from Dongshi to Fengyuan.
The “Grandparents & Kids Card Game” activity aims to create a positive environment for intergenerational interaction and learning through cultural experiences and ecological workshops. The program includes visits to the Zhushan Bamboo Art Museum with a master craftsman, hands-on traditional tea-rolling experiences with tea-making experts, tea ceremony appreciation sessions, a two-generation gaming showdown featuring mobile game challenges and cooking contests, as well as guided sessions on frog ecology and stargazing, DIY warm pineapple cakes from Lugu, and personalized wish tea canisters. These activities aim to promote values of respect for the environment and conservation.
In addition, there are group activities and leadership training from the Kangxie Royal Camp, tours to appreciate the beauty of the Central Cross-Island Highway, overnight stays at the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium for marine ecology exploration, outdoor scouting adventures with Little Tarzan, multi-intelligence potential development programs, career experience days at BabyBoss in Core Pacific City, nostalgic retro experiences through “Childhood Symphony,” exploration and recreation with the Kids’ Adventure Summer Camp, nature education in the Beetle Ecology Camp, and professional horseback riding in the Horse Riding Storm Camp. The Salvation Army Youth Corps stated that these activities are not only fun and enriching but also aim to encourage participants to step away from computers and their usual environments, thereby broadening their life experiences.
