Guanziling Hot Springs, along with Yangmingshan, Beitou, and Sichongxi, are ranked among Taiwan’s four famous hot springs. It is an alkaline carbonated spring with a temperature of around 75 degrees Celsius. Guanziling Hot Springs contain the rare mineral radium and are historically renowned as the “Number One Spiritual Spring under Heaven,” known for their beautifying and health-enhancing benefits. It is a natural mud hot spring—after bathing, your whole body feels refreshed, with skin appearing rosy and smooth.

[Fire and Water Spring]
Also known as the “Fire and Water Cave,” Fire and Water Spring was once listed among Taiwan’s Seven Scenic Spots and Tainan’s Eight Scenic Spots, making it a must-visit site on the way to Guanziling. Due to its unique geology, natural gas continuously seeps from crevices in the cliff year-round, allowing both gas and spring water to flow out simultaneously. When ignited, it creates the spectacular sight of fire within water and water within fire (Image source: Tainan Tourism Bureau).

[? Volcano Biyun Temple]
Because the temple is located near the Fire and Water Spring and also benefits from abundant natural gas, it is called “Volcano Biyun Temple.” Built along the mountain slope, the temple gate is simple and elegant, with exquisitely carved beams and pillars inside. The extensive use of washed gravel is a notable feature, and the front hall and mountain gate feature vibrant cut-and-paste and clay sculptures with strong local character. The temple offers an excellent view—on clear days, you can see the landscape of the Chianan Plain. Together with the commonly called “Old Rock” Daxian Temple, they form the “Guanling Cloud Cliff,” one of the former Eight Scenic Spots of Southern Taiwan.

[Red Leaf Park]
Located on Pillow Mountain in Guanziling, Baihe District, the park is planted with red-leaf plants—sweet gum and maple trees—which turn completely red in autumn, hence the name. The Red Leaf Tunnel is also named after this phenomenon, making it the only botanical garden in southern Taiwan featuring foliage-changing plants. Red Leaf Park is also one of the places in Taiwan richest in purple crow butterfly ecology, with 114 species of butterflies currently observable. In summer, the fluttering butterflies create a delightful scene as you stroll through.
A must-try in Baihe Guanziling is the clay pot chicken (Weng-á-koe)!
From the foot of the mountain to the top, the road is lined with numerous clay pot chicken restaurants—over thirty in total. The chicken is tender and juicy, with a golden, crispy skin. Some shops even develop their own secret recipes for clay oven roasting. You simply can’t miss this when visiting Tainan’s Baihe Guanziling.
