The 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival will be held in Taichung during the Yuanxiao Festival. To build up excitement, a “Countdown 100, Restart from the Heart” pre-event will take place from October 31 to November 10, featuring a “Light Amusement Park” set up in Taichung Park. Various decorations will be installed on the lake and bridges. When night falls, colorful ground lanterns, lakeside water lanterns, and painted light walls will all shine brilliantly, creating a truly romantic atmosphere.

The “Light Amusement Park” is open exclusively at 6 PM each evening. Designed by curator Chu Yu-jun, it invites local Taichung illustrator BaNAna Lin (Banana Lin) and long-time Taichung resident artist Tsai Yu-chieh (JIE) to participate in lantern painting. With themes inspired by stories of Taichung, the colorful lanterns transform Taichung Park into a vibrant light amusement park.

The first night of the lantern lighting happened to coincide with Halloween. A specially designed painted light wall also featured contributions from artists, who depicted their impressions of Taichung — such as jazz festivals, bubble tea, autumn oolong tea, pastries, and bike paths — in their works. The public, both kids and adults, were also invited to join in the creative process, adding even more meaning to the light wall.

With the addition of ground and water lanterns, the already beautiful Sun Moon Lake in Taichung Park becomes even more poetic and romantic under the moonlight. It not only adds warmth to romantic dates but is also perfect for family trips, offering joyful experiences in Taichung.Familytime.
