The local event “2019 Yingge Parent-Child Ceramics Carnival” was held with great fanfare on the 19th along the Yingge Ceramics Old Street. New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih attended in person to celebrate with the public. Aside from awarding the “2019 Yingge Ceramics Industry Enhancement” Participatory Budget prizes, he also presented flags to young ceramic artists in support of inheriting and promoting ceramic culture. Centered on parent-child experiences, the two-day carnival offered diverse activities such as the Joyful Pottery Music Concert, Hands-On Mini-Trips, a Hundred-Person Ocarina Parade, and Fun in the Sand Treasure Hunt. The program also included performances by master artisans, technology-guided tours, and themed exhibitions based on the San-Ying-Shu story, aiming to deepen public understanding of local industry and culture. Everyone is invited to join this weekend and experience a different side of Yingge’s charm.

New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih stated that the city government has been actively promoting local development in Yingge in recent years. In addition to advancing the construction of the Sanying Line MRT to improve transportation accessibility, the city has also established the New Taipei City Museum of Art to enhance local infrastructure. On the software side, the city is committed to nurturing ceramic talent. Both the Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Ceramics Museum have abundant resources to attract ceramic professionals, develop ceramic techniques, and encourage the participation of young ceramic artists. The hope is that with the fresh energy of the younger generation, Yingge’s future and local industries can spark greater innovation, expanding the potential of Yingge’s ceramic sector and sharing its culture with the world, passing the torch to the next youth-driven generation. This carnival aims to draw more visitors to experience ceramic culture through a variety of distinctive activities, while also boosting local tourism and business opportunities.

According to the Department of Economic Development, this carnival offers a rich variety of activities. These include parent-child-friendly events such as the Joyful Pottery Music Concert, Starlight Cinema, Hands-On Mini-Trips, and the Hundred-Person Ocarina Parade, as well as kid-focused activities that combine fun with learning about ceramics, like Fun in the Sand Treasure Hunt and overnight stays at the Ceramics Museum. There are also hidden gems like master artisan performances, app-based tech-guided puzzle tours, and themed exhibitions on San-Ying-Shu, offering the public a deeper dive into the rich heritage of Yingge’s ceramic culture.

Win Big Prizes Like TVs with Minimum Spending

To further boost tourism and consumer traffic, a special Youth Ceramics Market has been set up at the event site. During the event period from October 19th to 20th, anyone who accumulates spending of NT$500 or more at participating stores will have a chance to take home fantastic prizes such as a 40-inch LCD TV or a bicycle.

The Department of Economic Development added that there is still one more day to go for the event. Everyone is welcome to join the Hundred-Person Ocarina Parade in the afternoon. To extend the crowd momentum and shopping fervor, the discounts offered by the connected shops will continue from October 19th through October 31st.
