Riding on the strong northeastern monsoon winds, the Lukang Winter Tour Season has kicked off?! Today, Lukang Township Mayor Huang Zhenyan dressed up as the cool God of Thunder to invite everyone to explore historic sites and enjoy local cuisine. From the 29th to December 10th, for over a full month every weekend, in addition to the perennially sold-out and most famous Lukang Gourmet Banquet, a series of fun and engaging cultural and artistic activities such as “Temple Front Kids’ Fun” will be launched, offering a unique taste of the town’s charm.

In winter, Lukang is known for its famously fierce northeastern monsoon winds. However, the ancestors used their wisdom to construct the Zigzag Alleys to tame the winter winds, leaving behind architectural features rich in charm such as “Winter Sunshine in the Curved Alleys.” The Lukang Township Office has held the “Winter Tour Season” for ten years. Mayor Huang Zhenyan said that Lukang is a must-visit township for travelers and a key hub of Taiwanese culture, tourism, arts, and historic sites, making it well worth experiencing the winter ambiance.

This year’s Lukang Winter Tour Season series kicks off with a lively family-friendly costume party themed around Halloween, where both kids and adults are invited to gather at Lukang Stadium on the evening of the 29th to dress up and parade in style.

The Lukang Winter Tour Season features activities across three main areas: Wenchang Temple, the Guild Hall Plaza, and the Art Village. Wenchang Temple presents “Temple Front Kids’ Fun,” featuring a photo zone with a cute version of the God of Literature, encouraging visitors to take photos for good luck, as well as a lawn concert that brings together balloon art, dough figurines, and street performers.

The Guild Hall Plaza introduces the Resounding Music Stage, inviting performances from the WuSung Ensemble, children’s theater troupes, and classical poetry recital groups, adding even more appeal to Lukang’s classic old streets.

On winter afternoons at the Lukang Art Village, aside from live art performances by resident artists, there are also static art creation activities. The artists offer simple DIY experiences for visitors to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of art. The township office has also called on resident artists to collaborate on a large outdoor installation, using major artworks to showcase creative expression and creating a new hotspot for photos and check-ins.

The ever-popular “Lukang Gourmet Banquet,” which sells out instantly upon registration, will be held on the evenings of November 19 and 20, with 150 tables planned for each session. Starting with signature dishes and traditional snacks, and then refining the offerings further, it allows visitors to sample the finest of Lukang’s culinary delights all in one go.

The grand finale is a concert on December 10th, featuring well-known idol singers performing together to bring a spectacular close to the Lukang Winter Tour Season. For more details, visit the Lukang Township Office website or search “2016 Lukang Winter Tour Season” on Facebook.
