A low-pressure system located near the waters off Guam intensified into a tropical depression at 8 PM on the 26th. It shows potential to develop into Tropical Storm Mitag (No. 18) in the future. For the time being, it remains at a distance from Taiwan, but further developments warrant close attention to the weather forecast.

At 8 AM on the 27th, the center of the tropical depression was located in the waters east of the Philippines. It may become this year’s No. 18 Tropical Storm Mitag. Currently moving northwest at a speed of 18 km/h, the projected path indicates a northward turn north of the Ryukyu Islands.

Due to a relatively weak Pacific High, if Mitag does not turn sharply north, there is a chance that its storm circle could affect Taiwan’s land. Moisture from the eastern sea moved in on the 27th, and the Central Weather Bureau continues to issue heavy rain alerts, warning that Yilan is prone to heavy to torrential rain, while New Taipei, Keelung, Hualien and mountainous areas of Taipei also have a chance of localized heavy rainfall. Please stay vigilant.

Although central and southern Taiwan will remain mostly cloudy to sunny, there is a slightly higher chance of brief showers in mountainous areas and nearby plains in the afternoon. Temperature-wise, lows across the island in the early morning will be around 23–25°C. Daytime highs will be around 26°C north of Taoyuan and in Yilan, above 30°C elsewhere, with around 32°C in central and southern Taiwan. There is a slightly larger day-night temperature variation in central and southern regions, so the public should adjust clothing accordingly.
