Korean BBQ has been really popular in Taiwan lately. Following HONEY PIG, two other brands — Tae Yang Kak Doo and Samgyeopsal Balwoo Gongyang — have announced plans to open stores here. Recently, there’s also news that a Korean celebrity-owned BBQ restaurant might be expanding into Taiwan. According to TVBS, a BBQ spot under Kang Ho-dong could be opening a store in Taiwan, possibly in Ximending, an area already packed with Japanese-style yakiniku restaurants.

HONEY PIG, which opened in January this year, once kicked off a Korean BBQ craze in Taipei. Even nearly half a year later, you still need to line up on weekends. Not long after, Tae Yang Kak Doo, which belongs to the ZOO HOLDINGS Group, is expected to move into the sixth floor of ATT 4 FUN. It’s currently under construction, with an estimated opening in August.

In addition, “Samgyeopsal Balwoo Gongyang,” once voted by Hong Kong travel magazine New Vacation Weekly as a must-try Korean dish, is set to open its flagship store in Taiwan in the Dongcheng area. The store is currently under renovation. Chen Weikai, an advisor for Samgyeopsal Balwoo Gongyang, said that the Taiwan flagship store will bring the authentic flavors of Korea to Taiwan, with an expected opening in mid-July.
