Iryu Ramen founder Ryoichi Takamine had previously hinted in an interview with ETtoday Ettoday News Cloud that a fourth ramen shop was in the works. He later revealed the latest progress on his blog: the new shop is named Iryu Tokyo Tonkotsu 【Gokujoh】, specializing in Tokyo-style tonkotsu ramen. The new location is expected to be in Gongguan, and the shop’s lantern features a large white design rarely seen in Taiwan.

Ryoichi Takamine decided to open ramen shops in Taiwan after realizing during a trip three years ago that the Japanese ramen he tried in Taichung and later in Taipei didn’t match the authentic flavors he knew. He was concerned that Taiwanese people would think this was what Japanese ramen truly tasted like. Since then, he has opened three shops: Tokyo Takadanobaba Iryu Ramen in Taipei’s Lane 216 (the flagship store), Iryu Spicy Miso Ramen Oni (now closed), and Iryu Tokyo Soy Sauce Ramen Ranmaru. Iryu Tokyo Tonkotsu 【Gokujoh】 is the fourth.
