Taiwan’s only heritage site turned hotel — Taipei City Hotel begins accepting reservations on the 15th

Situated on Chongqing North Road, Taipei City Hotel is located in the former residence of Yeh Chin-Tu, a wealthy family that thrived on canned pineapple production in early Taiwan. Now reborn as Taipei City Hotel, it is the only heritage hotel in Taiwan and started taking reservations on June 15. In terms of accommodations, the hotel provides standard rooms, double rooms, deluxe rooms, and deluxe family rooms, with a total of 173 rooms priced from about NT$6,000 to NT$9,000. For dining, there is the “Dadaocheng Taiwanese Restaurant” on the second floor, offering buffet breakfasts, Dadaocheng-style dinner sets, Chinese banquet options, as well as conference space rentals that can accommodate up to 150 people.

Completed in 1929, Taipei City Hotel has 14 floors above ground and 3 below, and is also Taiwan’s first building to retain its original traditional façade. It is not only a memory for Taipei residents but also a precious cultural asset for all Taiwanese.The first to third floors are authentic historic architecture, featuring red bricks and exposed aggregate structures with an ancient Baroque style; the fourth to eleventh floors are newly constructed with gray granite materials. The contrast between classical and modern elements is the most distinctive feature. Over time, the building has served as a restaurant, newspaper office, shop, publishing house, Zhonghua Grand Restaurant, Independence Evening Post, hospital, and more—each chapter reflecting the vibrant legacy of the old Dadaocheng era.
