Travel Center / Comprehensive Report
Modern people are used to eating with all kinds of utensils, but a seafood restaurant from Singapore, "Dancing Crab," has now arrived in Japan. Its gimmick? No utensils allowed — you have to eat with your hands only!
Although Dancing Crab hails from Singapore, its menu focuses on various signature seafood dishes from Louisiana, USA, such as blue crab, Alaskan king crab, shrimp, octopus, mussels, and other rich seafood offerings. It also serves salads, bread, fried items, and drinks.

The serving and dining methods at the restaurant are also quite unique. No plates are used to hold the food. Instead, a thick layer of paper is spread across the table, and the meal, wrapped in bags, is simply poured directly onto the paper. Moreover, no knives, forks, or chopsticks are provided. The only way for guests to enjoy their meals is by “eating with their hands.” However, for crabs that need handling, the restaurant provides scissors for convenience. There’s also a hand-washing station set up in the center of the dining area.
In 2014, Dancing Crab opened its first Japanese branch in Shinjuku, and on August 6 of this year, it will open its second store in Osaka at the Grand Front Osaka building in Umeda.
