The first phase of the new Keelung Railway Station will be completed by the end of the month and will open on the 29th. Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) stated that in the future, the public can enter and exit through the old station and the north entrance of the new station, and it will only take 1 minute to get from the port to the railway station, significantly reducing the walking time for passengers.

TRA said that the new Keelung Railway Station is a semi-underground structure with two island platforms and four tracks. The ceiling windows on both sides help with lighting and air circulation, achieving energy-saving and carbon-reduction effects. In addition, TRA invited Korean-American artist Soo Sunny Park to create the public art piece “Luminous Flux,” inspired by Keelung as a mountain-and-sea city. It features imagery of undulating hills, shimmering waves, and swimming fish, which appear even more crystal-clear under the skylight sunlight.

TRA stated that previously, it took tourists 15 minutes to walk from the East Pier to the station. After the completion of the new Keelung Station, cruise ships will dock at the West Pier, and visitors will only need to cross the street and walk for 1 minute to enter the station. Additionally, the Taiwan-Matsu ferries TaMa Wheel and HeFu Wheel will also dock at the West Pier, allowing soldiers to return home more quickly.

TRA further explained that since the south station entrance and exit are not yet completed, passengers must enter through the old station and take stairs to reach the new station. Therefore, TRA has specially deployed a golf cart to promptly transport passengers with limited mobility to the north station exit.

The new Keelung Railway Station will be completed by the end of the year. The original track area will be transformed into a plaza. After crossing the plaza, pedestrians can cross the street to reach Keelung Miaokou, eliminating the hassle of using overpasses and significantly shortening the time and distance.
