Planning to explore nature this summer vacation? Pingtung offers 7 farm routes where you can even stay overnight to see fireflies

This summer, where to go? Pingtung County Government has planned the “Love Pingtung Farm Tour” event, featuring seven distinctive routes that let you visit 11 farms across Pingtung. Stay overnight on farms to watch the “fireflies” (known locally as "fire gold aunties") light up the night, run and play freely on lush green meadows — all starting from just NT$599 to NT$2,499 per person.

The seven Love Pingtung Farm Tour routes are: Peninsula Camping Themed 2-Day Tour, Northern Pingtung Indigenous Mythology Journey, Flower Scent Journey, Happy Bird Days, The Wizarding Meadow, Crocodile Quest, and Glowing Fireflies. A total of 30 one-day and two-day tour sessions are planned.

Among them, the“Northern Pingtung Indigenous Mythology Journey”takes you to Hongqi Organic Leisure Farm in Gaoshu Township to sample organically grown local produce, experience fun Hakka-style handmade rice cake pounding, and join an Aboriginal dance performance at Zhutian Township. There’s also an arts and crafts session to make beautiful flower crowns.“Flower Scent Journey”visits the Dalumy Leisure Farm in Liguang Township to learn how to make eco-bricks from newspapers for building houses, and the Lavender Garden Herb Leisure Farm where you can DIY your own natural mosquito repellent.“Happy Bird Days”includes a trip to the Daytuojia Sightseeing Leisure Farm in Yanpu Township, where you can stand on an ostrich egg and hug baby ostriches, and a DIY activity to paint quail eggs at the Quan Yuan Leisure Farm in Wanluan Township.

““The Wizarding Meadow”leads you to the Yuyuan Eco-Leisure Farm in Linluo Township to search for beetles and butterflies, and to the Yingda Eco-Leisure Farm in Wanluan Township for a picnic date on the vast grasslands.“Crocodile Quest”invites you to the Different Crocodile Eco-Farm in Chaozhou Township, where you can experience a life-or-death tug-of-war with a crocodile. “Glowing Fireflies” takes you to the Yiranju Firefly Eco-Farm in Xinpi Township to see how a habitat for fireflies is successfully created.

If one day isn’t enough for you, choose the“Peninsula Camping Themed 2-Day Tour”to stay overnight at Hengchun Eco-Farm, where you can try your hand at pitching a tent and enjoy camping fun. At night, you’ll be accompanied by fireflies and stars, and on the second day, explore Kenting Forest Recreation Area and Longluan Pond Nature Center.

Tourism and Communications Department Chief Yin Fenglan said the Love Pingtung Tour includes experiences in ecology, the herb industry, natural surroundings, and environmental education — perfect for family trips. During the summer vacation, each person can join from just NT$599 to NT$2,499, with some weekday routes even offering an additional NT$50 discount. Participants will also receive a complimentary exclusive limited-edition drawstring backpack worth NT$199.
